When it comes to adapting this sexually charged book in to a film version, the cast and production crew are running in to some challenges. While the book is very centered on sexual exploration and contact, the movie can quickly take that a little too far.
The issue is that when a person is reading about a sexual scene he or she can create an image that he or she is personally comfortable with.
Therefore, there is no possibility that the reader will be shocked by the imagery in a delicately described sex scene because he or she is the one creating the corresponding images.
When a book is adapted to a film version, the director is the person who paints the picture of the sexual tension and contact for the audience. This can be particularly challenging when the director paints the picture in a way that not many people saw the scene unfolding in his or her head.
When it comes to adapting a book to a movie version, there is always the pit in the bottom of the stomach of the people who loved the book. There is a fear of seeing the photos of the film version of the book and having them crush the ideas that you had in your head.
Every reader loves to read because you can create your own images of what is happening and create the entire movie in your imagination.
The images are perfect because you make all of the characters look exactly the way someone you were attracted to looks, or look like what you would consider to be a villain.
The devastating part of a movie is when you get the chance to observe the photos and the main characters that you artfully created in your head look nothing like the characters that the director had chosen.
Notably given an infamous title of “mommy porn”, 50 Shades of Grey is a book that originally came to be as a piece of Twilight fan fiction. Depending on who you ask, the 50 Shades franchise is either literary gold or a literary fail.
Avid writers and readers alike have taken to the internet to review, rip apart, and hold up the 50 Shades books as they continue to gain popularity the world over.
Originally available online as a free piece of Twilight fan fiction, of which there are thousands and thousands of reading options. When the Twilight Saga went viral, fans everywhere created alternate versions for fellow Edward-and-Bella lovers to enjoy. Most notably, there was a lot of explicit fan fiction to make up for the lack of sexual content in the original Twilight series.
When 50 Shades entered the scene online, it gained notoriety for its explicit nature almost instantly. Initially titled Master of the Universe, it was posted on multiple fan fiction sites. After hearing many complaints about its explicit nature, as well as seeing the following it built from those who were happy to see that exact characteristic, E.L. James removed it from the fan fiction sites and posted it on her own website, Fiftyshades.com. At that point, she also changed the names from Bella Swan and Edward Cullen to Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.
The cultural phenomenon that is Fifty Shades of Grey will be making its transition from the page to the screen with a production schedule expected to begin in 2014.
And while the book offers intense drama to pull its readers in, the movie is certain to generate even more fans.
Already, still months before production is slated to begin, the movie has generated its fair share of drama. Just in casting choices, and drop-outs, the movie has garnered media attention the world over.
