Mark Wahlberg wanted to get his hands on the Fifty Shades of Grey Movie and serve as the movie’s producer, but as it turns out things were not meant to be for this former model turned rapper turned actor turned producer and the title was awarded elsewhere.
Wahlberg was ‘blown away’ by the final price of the movie, stating that it was far out of his production company’sprice range to pay.
At the end of the day it was big-time Universal Pictures and Focus Films that won the bidding wars and the rights to the movie based upon the EL James trilogy that turned heads and showed women across the world that it was okay to explore their sexuality and their sexual nature.
Although Wahlberg did not get the winning bid on the movie it is still underway and filming it taking place in Vancouver, Canada as we speak. With a February 2015 release date it will still be some time before the fans can see what all the fuss was about, but according to what we have heard and the photos that we have saw, this is not going to be any bit of disappointing.
Notably given an infamous title of “mommy porn”, 50 Shades of Grey is a book that originally came to be as a piece of Twilight fan fiction. Depending on who you ask, the 50 Shades franchise is either literary gold or a literary fail.
Avid writers and readers alike have taken to the internet to review, rip apart, and hold up the 50 Shades books as they continue to gain popularity the world over.
Originally available online as a free piece of Twilight fan fiction, of which there are thousands and thousands of reading options. When the Twilight Saga went viral, fans everywhere created alternate versions for fellow Edward-and-Bella lovers to enjoy. Most notably, there was a lot of explicit fan fiction to make up for the lack of sexual content in the original Twilight series.
When 50 Shades entered the scene online, it gained notoriety for its explicit nature almost instantly. Initially titled Master of the Universe, it was posted on multiple fan fiction sites. After hearing many complaints about its explicit nature, as well as seeing the following it built from those who were happy to see that exact characteristic, E.L. James removed it from the fan fiction sites and posted it on her own website, Fiftyshades.com. At that point, she also changed the names from Bella Swan and Edward Cullen to Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.
The cultural phenomenon that is Fifty Shades of Grey will be making its transition from the page to the screen with a production schedule expected to begin in 2014.
And while the book offers intense drama to pull its readers in, the movie is certain to generate even more fans.
Already, still months before production is slated to begin, the movie has generated its fair share of drama. Just in casting choices, and drop-outs, the movie has garnered media attention the world over.

British author E.L. James (full name Erika Leonard James) is the writer of the original script — including its predecessor, Master of the Universe. To make sure the book is translated on screen in a way that fits her vision, James is on-tap as a producer and screenwriter for the screen version of her megahit first novel.
