While much of the world is swept up in the edgy story of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, there are many people who think the book and the movie are awful.
There are 5 top celebrities that have all come out against the franchise, calling the material everything from porn to morally offensive.
Is that mommy porn morally offensive?
While it may be a case of the pot calling the kettle black, Kristen Stewart has come out to say she is not a fan of the series. Maybe the star has paid attention to the criticism of the Twilight romance and is turning a new leaf.
Stewart has called it “porn,” and flat out said she is creeped out when she sees people reading it. She is supported by Arnie Hammer who dubbed the books “mommy porn”, and athlete Lolo Jones has all but called the series, and its fans, morally questionable.
Some find the characters the problem
Kim Catrall and Stephen Arnall are also not a fan of the second book in the series either. Their criticism isn’t about the content, it’s about the characters. Both of them find Christian Grey to be unappealing.
Catrall called him a “boy,” but Arnell was more targeted in saying that the character struck him as boring.
Will it slow down the franchise?
‘Fifty Shades of Grey” and the trilogy of books by E.L. James have proven to be such runaway hits there is little criticism that can stop the Hollywood machine from making sure the sequels are made.
Backlash against the movie for its portrayal of what many consider to be an abusive relationship – even by those in the BDSM lifestyle it doesn’t seem to be making an impact. ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ still hasn’t got a director, and no filming has been done. Still, the movie is expected to be released in 2017.
